Phil Sheridan on Andre Waters

When I saw the crawl on Waters' death last night, and the note that it was self-inflicted, I began waiting from the shoe to drop on some sort of drug or other less-than-optimal entanglement that would have driven the ex-Eagle to that point. A read of Phil Sheridan's thoughts on Waters' passing this morning reveals something sadder, it appears the 44-year-old was depressed. And also angry with not still having a job in some capacity in the NFL. In any event, the whys really don't matter. What matters and sucks is that a guy who as recently as last spring was working with at-risk youths felt checking out was an option.
