Gilbert Arenas guarantees 50, drops 9

Gilbert Arenas guaranteed that he’d score 50 points against Portland tonight. This statement was in response to Blazers coach Nate McMillan’s involvement in Arenas’ omission from the U.S. National Team.

But instead of hitting the half-century mark, Agent Zero dropped a whopping nine, including going 0-for-8 from three-point range. Having provided the Blazers with ample bulletin board material, Arenas went out and had arguably his worst game of the season.

As a Wizards fan, and a huge fan of Gilbert Arenas, it is not fun for me to watch him make a fool of himself as it tends to result in the Wizards losing games. And I don’t understand this behavior. Does he need the attention? Did he run out of quirky things about himself to reveal to the media? What gives? I don’t remember Michael Jordan going out and making these types of guarantees. Why the hell is Arenas doing it?
