Bud Selig to Non-DirecTV Basball Fans...
..."Go fuck yourselves." I'm paraphrasing there. But only a little. Quoth the commish, in an Antoinette-like moment about the rampant unhappiness over the looming exclusive DirecTV deal with MLB's game package:
"I've heard for years we have too much product out there. Everywhere I've gone ... there's no market that has less than 350 to 400 [televised] games, and some [like Chicago] have quite a bit more than that. We have an enormous amount of product out there. As for this deal, what fascinates me is I have spent a lot of time going over it and trying to find out who can't get [DirecTV]. We're down now to such small numbers, that I'm really wondering [about the fuss].... In a year or two, when people understand the significance of this deal ... everybody will understand it."
Well, there you go, out-of-market fans who can't get DirecTV due to tree or tall building issues (or just because you don't want to), Bud Selig says you are such a small number that he can't fathom what the fuss is about.
I have a clear southern view and have had good luck with DirecTV for a decade now, but fully understand that there are those who don't have that option. It remains mind-bogglingly stupid to me just how callous MLB is toward the core supporters of its product. Bud Selig remains, in point of fact, a gigantic mega-tool, and always will be. An asshole's asshole. A pure putz.
I am guessing the swamp all-timer howard will not be thrilled to hear confirmation of how the commish views him. A thread has been underway here for awhile. Drop by with a thought or two.
