Torii Hunter - Rule Breaker

Baseball

by Geep on Tuesday, April 24th, 2007 at 11:44am

Last September, Torii said if the Royals swept the Tigers the last weekend, allowing the Twins to come from behind to win the American League Central, he would buy them some Dom. Last weekend Hunter’s gift of four bottles of Dom Perignon, was delivered to the Royals clubhouse.

“Ok so he said you sweep, I give you some Dom.” The Royals. That was some pretty long odds to begin with. If I was on the Royals I would be pissed. Only four bottles? For 25 guys and coaches? What a cheap fuck.

This being baseball, a good deed never goes unpunished. Rule 21-b, which proclaims “Any player or person connected with a Club who shall offer or give any gift or reward to a player or person connected with another Club for services rendered … in defeating or attempting to defeat a competing Club … shall be declared ineligible for not less than three years.”

Hunter said he wasn’t aware of the rule. “I do good things,” he said, according to the Star-Tribune of Minneapolis. “If you want to make a good thing into a bad thing, then so be it.”

So how did the commish become aware of this flagrant violation of the sacred baseball rules? Who would tell? Who dropped a dime? Who’s the rat?

It seems the rat is The Cheater’s Guide to Baseball Blog. I had linked to this site earlier in the season when there was a substance on F-Rod’s hat. The guy who writes the site has written a book. I can only imagine that to increase book sales, website traffic and his personal profile he became an informant. Well Derek Zumsteg, I for one, think you can go fuck yourself. You snitch. I can only hope Tony sends Paulie Walnuts to find you, my friend.
