Bad to Worse for the Yankees

At 18 - 23, a record that puts the Yankees within shouting distance of owning the worst record in baseball, and 10.5 games behind the Red Sox, other than the anticipation of the looming arrival of the mercenary Methuselah, there is not much life in the Bronx right now. The Mets are having their way with their cross-town rivals, and the Yankees are burning through pitchers like Paris Hilton burns through antibiotic prescriptions. Mike Lupica is sounding the Yankees-lack-killer instinct alarm, and there may be some merit to that.
And I am even more persuaded, from the outside looking in at that franchise this morning, by Jackie Chiles' thoughts at Airing of Grievances, where he again makes the case that Joe Torre's time in NY needs to be over. And I am in full agreement on how passive (read: "pussy") baseball can be soul-sucking to watch. At some point, as a fan, it would be nice to see the team you root for throw a punch back, or, in this case, return a beaning for a beaning. The Reds have been all too willing to bend over in the last half decade or so in similar situations as well. Fucking stand up for yourselves at some point.
The Yankees appear to be a franchise that needs someone different at the corner of the dugout to see if they can help that team find some fire.
