Big Shot Bob Strikes Again (Stoudemire Suspended)
I won't mention how rare it was that I was actually watching an NBA game last night or you might take me even less seriously as a sports blogger. But I was legitimately gripped by Phoenix's fourth-quarter comeback to surprisingly even their series with San Antonio. The Suns came back from five down with under a minute left to win going away. While they were "going away," Spurs reserve Robert Horry decided it was a good time to practice hockey, recklessly slamming Steve Nash into the court wall. Nash was briefly upset and joked in the post game interview about "trying out his new guns" on Horry. (I have not gotten enough Nash in my life. Seriously. Is he the easiest guy to root for or what?) After Horry's pussy-ass move, which happened right near the Suns' bench, Amare Stoudemire and Boris DIaw took a few steps toward the play.
The announcers were quick to point that the players left the bench and replay it again and again. Ironically, they may have had a hand in taking a likable superstar out of Game 5. That's right, Amare has been suspended (along with Diaw), while the Fresh Prince gets two games for the cheap shot. It is an unfortunate twist in this series and it makes me mad, but it was the right call. If you are going to have a rule you need to enforce it. And frankly the rule, last night and other nights, has helped the NBA prevent ugly scenes from getting much uglier.
So I'm not going to badmouth the NBA on this one (though some in the Swamp are). I sure do hope people remember that Bob Horry is a cheap-ass little bitch.
