The curse of Jeff Mangold?

Phil Hughes was no-hitting the Rangers through six innings. He came out for the seventh, got an out, then got two strikes on Mark Teixeira, and pulled a hammy. Exit phenom. Enter Mike Myers for his 16th appearance in 24 games for the Yankees.

That would be three starting pitchers in a month's time with a hamstring injury. In addition, Hideki Matsui, Johny Damon, Andy Pettitte and Bobby Abreu have missed time due to various strains and pulls since Spring Training started.

And that would be the world's biggest magnifying glass being applied to the Yankees new strength and conditioning program. In case you were wondering what happened to long time Yankee strength and conditioning coach Jeff Mangold, Brian Cashman fired him after nine years of service to hire a team with no major-league experience.

UPDATE: It looks like Hughes could miss 4-6 weeks.

The Sports Frog was started by a bunch of sports-loving friends in January 2003. We were nominated for a bloggie this year and we'd like to thank our ISP, all of your unobservant bosses, and God. (God loves us more than other blogs.) If you are here for the first time be sure to swing by The Swamp and say hello.
