Buehrle to change the color of his Sox? At the begining of the season we were all made aware of the fact that the White Sox had no plans to resign Buehrle. Does that lower his trade value?
“At least seven teams have made serious contact with Ken Williams, with three actually having the resources to pry Buehrle from the White Sox. The Atlanta Braves and New York Mets were the leading contenders until this weekend, with the Boston Red Sox now becoming the front-runner.”
It is not yet to the point where the Pirates need to stitch a 14-letter jersey, but they are among the teams to have inquired about trading for Atlanta’s terrific catching prospect, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, according to a source directly involved in the matter.
Blue Jays say they aren’t looking to move third baseman Troy Glaus, but their perspective might be changing. The Jays are now willing to listen on Glaus, one rival general manager says, a notable development for the Padres, Dodgers and Angels.
Glaus, 30, has a full no-trade clause, but it stands to reason that he would be open to returning to his native southern California.
Outfielder Milton Bradley has been designated for assignment by the A’s, but though the Mets could use outfield help, team officials would be extremely leery about having Bradley in New York because of how much baggage he has.
A source told Newsday that the Yankees have expressed an interest in first baseman Mark Teixeira, among others on the Rangers, who will likely be in a selling mode around the trade deadline.
Teixeira, who’s set to become a free agent after the 2008 season, would cost the Yankees both players and prospects.
It appears the Cubs will move a position player by Monday, when they plan to add a 12th man to their pitching staff, and the most likely to go is Jacque Jones, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.
Sources have indicated to the Sun-Times that the Padres, Rangers and White Sox have shown interest in Jones, who’s gone from being the Cubs’ Opening Day starter in right field to being their fifth outfielder.
