The Reds Still Suck. But Ken Griffey Jr.? Not So Much.

Baseball

Reasons to watch the Reds if you are a fan:

1. To see their charge past the Devil Rays for the worst record in baseball? Um, no.

2. To see Josh Hamilton begin to realize on his prodigious talent while working to put his crack addiction behind him? Yeah, that’s one.

3. To see Ken Griffey Jr., finally healthy, remind the world what a crazed talent he was (and, apparently, still is)? Yes. That’s for damn sure another.

Last night Jr. tied Frank Robinson for sixth on the all-time homerun list with his 586th career homerun. For the season, Griffey is batting .292 with 23 homeruns, 59 RBI, 48 runs and a stout .392 OBP that along with a .580 SLG gives him a .972 OPS on the season to date.

Damn.

Amazing what having some healthy legs under a person can do in terms of their hitting…

Another random Reds stat (not that you care)…all three starting outfielders are OPSing over .900 (Hamilton at .918 and Dunn at .912 to go with Jr.’s numbers). The word continues to be that both Dunn and Jr. are available in the right deal. Here’s hoping, again, that Wayne Krivsky learned his lesson last season and will demand full value for any team that comes calling for a stick that can make the difference between competing for the World Series or staying home come October.
