The Anti All Stars or Baseball’s LESSPYS

I compiled this list based on certain criteria. Personal bias, blatant suck (Arghh Rating), and contract size.
C – Dioner Navarro
He has had some serious grief with his child’s illness, but he isn’t even hitting his weight. Once a promising Yankee prospect, he is now batting .177 with a .491 OPS in 209 at bats. By comparison here are Carlos Zambrano’s hitting stats: .238 with a .643 OPS
1B – Richie Sexson
Obviously anyone that has played 1B for the Yankees qualifies, but they have had more guys there this season than Paris Hilton. Sexson is producing a stellar .205 BA, and a .299 OBA. He has had 283 at bats with 63 strikeouts giving him a strikeout average of .223. Let’s not even think about how much he’s getting paid.
2B – Rickie Weeks
I am not just picking on the young, but it’s Weeks fault because we had such high expectations. His average to date is a robust .221 while his strikeout average is .261 I even heard some muck thrower on ESPN saying how great the Brewers infield will be long term with the 4 guys they have. Maybe he hadn’t seen the stats for Weeks this year. Weak indeed. Remember this guy was the second overall pick of the 2003 draft.
SS – Julio Lugo
As a Yankee fan I am thrilled that Julio is signed to a long term deal. He has already committed as many errors as his Gonzalez did last year. What can be said positively about Lugo? He has a good SB average. Otherwise he is the suck. Batting only .197 you could say he is clutch as he has driven in 40 with only 59 hits.
3B – Nick Punto
So far this had been the most difficult position, because that hot corner has a large level of suckitude. Ensberg, Blum, Betemit, but Punto is worse by far. Perhaps it’s not really Nick’s fault, as no one except Gardenhire sees him as an everyday 3rd baseman. On to the stats. Nick is batting .211 but what really stands out is his .272 slugging percentage. The sortable stats on mlb.com show that 53 pitchers have a higher slugging percentage. Punto’s equal? Shawn Chacon.
LF – Ryan Langerhans
Since he plays for Washington, maybe no one has noticed how bad he has been. BA .160 SLG .282 He is hitting .404 in the strikeout category. This guy is Rob Deer without the homeruns. (Sorry Mr. Deer) I have no idea why he is still in the majors. Nothing personal Ryan, but hey pick up an application for UPS sometime soon.
CF – Andruw Jones
It is sad to see Andruw on this list, but he has to be here. He has given new meaning to the term contract year. He is batting .211 and scouts have said he has lost a lot of range in center field. If anyone on this list can bounce back and have a strong second half it is the pride of Curacao.
RF – Jay Gibbons
I could have gone with Carlos Quentin but he was just demoted. So it is Jay instead. O’s fans have been waiting for a few years for Jay to show his potential. It’s just not happening. Batting .212 with a .351 slugging is not going to cut it for a corner outfielder.
SP – Edwin Jackson
Edwin Jackson is the best pitcher ever born in Neu-Ulm, West Germany. When Jackson pitches to Navarro they might be better off switching spots. He is 1-9 with a 7.23 ERA and has given up 11 homers in 74 innings. When hitters play against this guy it’s like going out on a date with the town slut. You know you are going to hit it. His average against is .319
RP – Levale Speigner
My neighbor had a Speigner when I was a kid. That was a nasty dog. Ok so Levale (What a fucked up name) has started 6 games but he sucks whenever he takes the mound. With a WHIP of 2.03 I bet he begins innings in the stretch. The league bats .341 against him making everyone a HOFer. Ironically his 8.78 ERA is the same number of season tickets Washington has sold. Go Nats.
