What if Barry Bonds Never Homers Again?

That would be okay with me. Damn peachy, in fact.
Unlikely, but yaneverknow. At any rate, he’s in the midst of a ferocious slump, 0 for 20 slump (not including two weak hitless all-star at-bats) and the Giants continue to suck. What’s really interesting, as Scott Ostler points out in the SF Chronicle this morning, is that the Dodgers pitching staff spent the weekend rather pointedly pitching TO Bonds, not around him. Also, Ostler gets a Monday cookie for this quality line:
“Nobody expects Bonds to wield a gold glove, but the swing, oh my. It’s so bad that the Giants are considering giving the McCovey Cove kayakers a break by flooding an area near the Giants’ bullpen, bringing the boaters into the yard and letting them chase Bonds pop-ups on Barry Lagoon.”
