As July Turns to August…

…the Cubs are running the Brewers down.
One half of one game. That’s all Milwaukee’s lead is as of this morning. And that’s with Milwaukee having played three more games than Chicago. The Cubs play tonight, Milwaukee does not, giving the Cubs their first chance to move into a tie at the top of the division since the season was in its initial week.
The Cubs are 33-17 since June 2 (best in baseball) and have enough minor league assets to be a player at the trade deadline, should they so choose. Given how their pitching has come together, they have to now be considered the favorites in the Central. By the way, that Carlos Zambrano boast back in the spring that he would win the Cy Young this year? Looking better and better as the season deepens. 9-2 in this last 11 starts with a 1.41 ERA over that span certainly helps.
Milwaukee’s issues? The road. They’re pretty suck-tastic on the road. 36-17 at home? Good. Real good. 21-32 on the road? Bad. Real bad. Season is pretty much starting over for them now. Probably time to figure that issue out if they want to take the division.
