- The Chargers are talking about using LT more in the passing game again. After hauling in 100 catches in 2003, his catch total dropped to the mid-50s over each of the last three seasons.
- Troy Williamson and Bobby Wade are listed as the starting WRs on Minnesota’s most recent depth chart. Add that to the very raw Tarvaris Jackson at QB, and Vikings’ offense is likely to see a lot of 8 man defensive fronts this year.
- Good news for the Vikes, Chester Taylor returned to practice after severely bruising his forearm last week.
- Len Pasquarelli writes about what is keep the Quinn contract negotiations stalled.
- Anthony McFarland has sustained a serious leg injury and is likely out for the season. This is why it’s so hard to repeat. First Glenn and now Booger, it usually takes a healthy team to win a championship and it’s hard to stay healthy (and not retired, I suppose) two seasons in a row.
- Kevin Curtis is making an impact in the new Eagles offense. Curtis has never really had the chance to show what he can do as a #1 or #2 WR at the NFL level. He may surprise some who think he can’t play that position in the league.
- Robert Mechaem called the hit Pttsburgh’s William Gay put on him in the Hall of Fame game “the hardest hit of my life“. And on the next series, Tyler Palko laid one out for Meachem to get creamed again on, but the Saints’ rookie WR ducked under the hit, not attempting to catch the pass at all. “I have a lot of work to do,” said Meachem, who played at Tennessee. “Second pass, I should have caught it. Third pass, too. I was always taught that any time you get your hands on the ball, you catch it, no matter what. I have to adjust quickly, get back to work.” At least he knows it.
- Bernard Berrian is playing out a contract year, with dollar signs in his eyes.
- David Bostons’ latest chance to earn a starting spot on the Bucs squad seems to be going better than his previous attempts.
- The Redskins are being cautious with Clinton Portis’ knee. His recent MRI showed only the tendinitis they already knew about.
- Eagles tightend LJ Smith, also in a contact year, has been slow to come back from his sports hernia surgery.
- A look into why the Colts feel they are okay with letting both of last year’s starting cornerbacks go in the offseason. Kelvin Hayden played a number of snaps in the Super Bowl and Marlin Jackson has been given plenty of time on the field as well.
- The Seahawks are high on Brandon Mebane, their third round pick DT from Cal.
- Alex Smith says he’ll run more this season to keep defenses honest.
- Mike Williams seems to have found a home in Oakland and an opportunity to succeed.
- The Colts are thrilled with their two WR rookies, Anthony Gonzalez and Roy Hall.
- Pro Football Reference takes a look at some interesting QB stats here and here. One of the lines that’s worth noting: “Damon Huard last season had the lowest INT rate of the 1,280 QBs since 1960 to throw 200 passes in a season. “
- Football Guys took a conversation about Joseph Addai’s production value from their forum and excerpted it on their blog.
- The next two preseason games are Thursday night, CIN at DET and IND at DAL on FOX.
