• Eric Byrnes has always been an exciting baseball player. With the energy of a hyperactive child after 2 red bulls he attacks the outfield with a ferocity just slightly less that the insane Ryan Freel. Byrnes can also hit a little too. Often filling the three spot in the D-Backs line-up he has been a solid contributor for the team.
The Arizona Diamondbacks and popular outfielder Eric Byrnes agreed Tuesday to a $30 million, three-year contract extension through 2010.
• The Seattle Mariners' mascot won't be punished for running into Boston outfielder Coco Crisp while riding an all-terrain vehicle during Sunday's game. The WWLIS has video of the event with this link.
• The Padres may drop the Boom on David Wells.
David Wells said it probably would be the end of his pitching career if the Padres were to release him, which is a possibility in the wake of the left-hander's recent struggles. The 235-game winner added: "If I'm not starting, that means I'm on a flight to the ranch," the Michigan spread where Wells likes to hunt.
• Jake Peavy will win the Cy Young this year. I have only predicted this for three years running. When I finally lost faith, he produced. He shutout the Cards last night and that gave the Padres 16 shutouts for the season. That's a lot of goose eggs.
• Wally Backman has had problems since he retired as a player. After a 4 day stint as the Diamondbacks manager, life has not gotten much better. You can read more here. I am just glad my mistakes in life aren't covered by a major media sports website.

• Some Cubs fans may wish that Jeff Samardzija (if Harry was still alive, he would be Jeff that kid from Notre Dame) was participating in two a days at some NFL camp. A 3-8 record and a 4.95 ERA at Class A Daytona, earned him a promotion. I wish I could get a promotion for work like that.
