Say! Didn’t You Used to Be Byron Leftwich?

So the Leftwich era ends in Jacksonville with a thud.
The former first round pick (who some analysts and more Bengals fans than wish to admit it said would be a better pick than Carson Palmer back in 2003) no longer will be disappointing fans in Jacksonville. Not only has he been beaten out by David Garrard, he’s been told that he doesn’t have to go home, but he can’t stay here.
Considering Jags coach Jack Del Rio named Leftwich the starter back in February, said there was no open competition in camp, and that Jax was among the teams showing no interest in Brady Quinn last April, this decision is curious. At best. Sam Borden, columnist in the local Jax paper has one word for the sequence of events: clownish.
As for landing places for Leftwich (either via trade or wire claim)? Atlanta comes to mind. Kansas City too. Back-up in Cincinnati? God knows (as does anyone with eyes) that Doug Johnson sucks donkey balls. The Bengals could use insurance. It will be interesting to see this plays out in the next week or so.
