A Sports Illustrated Dichotomy Continues
An update on my ridiculously long Peter King opus below:
King's newest effort up on si.com is his picks for Week 2 in the NFL, where he says this about the Pats/Chargers game:
"How about Randy Moss getting TRIPLE-COVERED and hauling in a touchdown catch from Tom Brady? "That's the first time I've seen him with that quickness in the last two or three years," Cris Carter said at the HBO "Inside the NFL" show Wednesday. "He hasn't run through coverage like that since Minnesota."Patriots 27, Chargers 17"
Let me interpret that re: the on-going Belichick chatter everywhere else:
LA LA LA LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU LA LA LA LA LA LA LA
As for what grown-up journalists do with a story like the one that is unfolding in New England? They have a take. Paul Zimmerman at si.com, that's your cue:
"But the things that make this Patriots flap so bothersome are the following:
The arrogance of the organization, the smugness. We are the greatest, with the greatest coach, a genius, etc. What other team ever had its owner, Bob Kraft in this case, take the Super Bowl trophy overseas in the name of world peace. What'll he take this year, the videos of the defensive signals? The fact that this is nothing new. Stories are now coming out of the woodwork that cheating has been a normal modus operandi with this club."
Strong. To quite strong. There's more, and it's a rock solid read, as always. Dr. Z reamins as good as it gets in the business (along with his colleague, Don Banks).
To recap: In four columns/features this week from King, zero words on the Patriots' alleged shenanigans. That's unreal.
Thanks to uber-Swamper Jerloma and swamp stalwart eliscoming for the heads up on Zimmerman's piece.
