Baseball Quick Hits
• Brandon Webb outpitched Adam Wainwright to earn his 15th victory, and the Arizona relievers blanked the Cardinals in the final three innings in the Diamondbacks' 4-2 victory Friday night.
• The Braves' John Smoltz is the only pitcher in baseball history with at least 200 wins and 150 saves, but he still doesn't have a no-hitter. He had a no-hitter working Friday against the Nationals through seven innings, but Washington's Ronnie Belliard broke it up with a single to right.
• Alex Rodriguez hit his 49th homer of the season in the second inning and Derek Jeter scored the go-ahead run in the seventh to help the Yankees edge the Royals on Friday night.
• Some nights the bullpens are not good. Not even close to good. Last night's Twins-White Sox game was the first time ever that both teams scored 6 runs in the 9th inning. EVER. Even Joe Nathan gave up a run.
• In case you missed it with all the Ankiel stuff (taking HGH while it was still ok with baseball), Troy Glaus was getting steroids shipped to his house. Prescribed by a currently suspended pharmacist, I am sure all this is just fine.
• Yawn..... Littlefield fired. Apparently no number #1 drafted pitchers needed shoulder surgery this year so that was the end of Littlefield. This guy couldn't catch a draft in a sailboat during a hurricane. I love the sub headline "General manager dismissed after six-plus seasons"... I wouldn't exactly use the word PLUS anywhere around this guy.
