National Fumble League
That was some of the worst football I've seen yet.
I don't know what the NFL record is, but there were 62 fumbles during week one play. Sixty Two.
Only one team survived their opening week without putting the ball on the ground: Detroit.
No game had less than two fumbles by both teams combined.
And of course the injuries. It's hard not to think that something was different about this week one. Sure, every year teams come out rusty and a little out of shape, but this one just seemed worse.
Injuries have a lot to do with luck, but conditioning is also a big factor and when players get tired, they get sloppy.
And there was a whole lot of sloppy out there.
When you see a team like the Titans, who played their starters for most of the preseason, roll up a franchise worst (for Jacksonville) 282 rushing yards, I have to think they were just better prepared to play football on Sunday.
And I think that we'll see a lot of teams take a different approach to their preseason next season.
