The (Almost) Mighty Quinn

I don't know why people are surprised that the Browns traded away Charlie Frye to Seattle for a 6th round draft pick. It's a damn smart move in my opinion. Only Frye's family and a few apologists could have supported him staying in Cleveland. The guy may have been "a gamer" with a lot of "experience in the huddle" and a bunch of other classically meaningless football talk. But he couldn't throw the football very well. And he's a quarterback. That's a problem.

Sure, they could have demoted him, but all that would have done is sent mixed signals to the team about who the leader on the squad was. And potentially created a dreaded quarterback controversy down the road when all of their QBs struggle.

Derek Anderson takes over as #2 for now. Anderson plays with a big arm and a small brain. Browns fans should get ready for a lot of interceptions for sure, and if they're lucky, he might throw some highlight reel touchdown passes along the way if he has improved his accuracy at all.

It's only a matter of time until the golden boy gets his shot.

In January 2003, a group of sports-loving friends launched The Sports Frog. In the time since, we have become an oasis for intelligent sports discussion on the Web. That's right, we said oasis. If you are here for the first time be sure to swing by The Swamp and join the conversation.
