Denver This Morning
Happy about the Rockies (hyperbole much Mark Kiszla?), nervous about that whole Travis-Henry-may-have-failed-another-drug-test thing. As well they should be. He's facing a one-year suspension at this point under the league's substance abuse rules. And, since he has the temerity to be black, there likely won't be any relief from Roger (I give relief for whiteys) Goodell. Jared Allen is certainly pleased he was an NFL player with alcohol issues who was born white.
Henry's attempts to stave off the likely end of his career? Floyd Landis-like:
"On Sept. 20, Henry filed for a temporary restraining order in Suffolk County Supreme Court in New York to block the league from using a urine test to suspend him. The league had an appellate court vacate the order and is seeking to have the suit heard in Brooklyn federal court because it involves interpreting the NFL collective bargaining agreement covered under federal laws, Newsday reported. Henry claims the league violated its substance-abuse policy by not allowing his own experts to be present for testing of his specimen. The substance-abuse program calls for two samples to be taken. According to an ESPN report, Henry is attempting to block the league from testing his "B-sample." Henry was scheduled to rotate out of the NFL's drug program on Oct. 1 if he was clean for two years after his last positive test. That would have meant a clean slate for Henry. However, a positive test on or before Sept. 20 - the date he filed the restraining order - would earn him the one-year suspension. Players who violate the program another time after receiving the one-year suspension receive a lifetime ban from the NFL."
Lawyers. Well done. All he needs is guns and money, and somewhere in the great beyond, Zevon would approve. By the way, every Travis Henry owner should already know this, but on the off chance some poor clueless soul stumbles across this site and reads my blatherings, um, pick up Selvin Young. Now. And, since this is Mike (I fuckin' hate fantasy teams) Shanahan, better get Mike Bell as well.
