Week 7 NFL Picks – 2008

We’re off to a late start this week, but will plow on regardless of tardiness. It’s week seven, and so far this season some of the best picks have been double digit dogs. After last week, however, where the Rams, Cards, and Browns all won their games outright, I think the word is out and the world is catching on. So for once, underdogs might be overvalued.

SAN DIEGO at BUFFALO (0) – A west coast team on the East with an early start and it looks like Trent Edwards is playing. The prospect of JP Losman starting here is the one thing that was keeping away from this game but that fear is gone now. Also, the Bills have enough depth at DB, even though its young, to compensate for the loss of Terrence McGee. San Diego is off a big home win and is already making plans for their London game next week.
Bills even

PITTSBURGH at CINCINNATI (+9.5) – An exception to the rule this week, I still like the Bengals here. The Steelers are off their bye so I think will be overvalued. They also squeeked out a few wins before they got their week off so I question their hunger in this game. The Bengals, meanwhile, are still winless despite the fact that they’ve been more competitive of late, and they’re at home against a division rival. They may still lose, but close to 10 points in generous.
Bengals +9.5

DALLAS at ST LOUIS (+7) – I can’t imagine what this line would be if the Cowboys were healthy. They aren’t, but they’ve still got more talent than the Rams. They’re also coming off a loss while St Louis is coming off a rather lucky win in Washington where the Rams were vastly outgained and were only able to register 8 first downs.
Cowboys -7

DETROIT at HOUSTON (-9.5) – Can the Texans really blow someone out this bad. Ugh, I don’t know, but this is a theme pick. I jumped on their train a week too early a few weeks ago, and they have yet to come through. Laying nearly ten points gives worry, but it’s Dan Orlovsky starting over there. Dunta Robinson is back too, albeit with limited playing time.
Texans -9.5

SAN FRANCISCO at NY GIANTS (-10) – Another west coast team with an early eastern time zone kick off. The 49ers and Martz are a terrible road team, but his teams are great at back door covers. Still, with the Giants off a horrible loss I see them coming out large this week and then struggling next week vs Pittsburgh before they face Dallas and Philly in weeks 9 and 10.
Giants -10

TENNESSEE at KANSAS CITY (+9) – I know i took the Chiefs at nearly the same line at home against the Broncos, but that was a division game and the Broncos were ripe. So far this season, the Chiefs are giving up and average of 182.2 yards rushing. Oh, and Brady Croyle is starting. Both teams off a bye.
Titans -9

There are the favorites. Hang on to your seat. I’ll also take the Broncos +3 and the Packers +1 to balance things out. And you know what, if you’re in to this sort of thing, 10 point tease of the season may just be TEN/NYG/DAL and 7 point tease of the season is DAL/TEN. Go ahead and put both on my sheet.
