Why the GMAC Bowl

College Football

I’ve spent the last 20 minutes looking at today’s headlines, trying to find something that pissed me off enough to write about here.

I never really found anything, but I still don’t really know why we have the GMAC Bowl tonight.

I know they usually drop in some Mid-Major matchup before the National Championship, but why do they do that?

And I assume the GMAC Bowl got picked this year because of this:

“The GMAC Bowl has been one of the most exciting postseason games since its inception in 1999.

The bowl is home to the highest-scoring game in bowl history (Marshall defeated East Carolina 64-61 in double overtime in 2001), and the biggest blowout in bowl history (Tulsa’s 63-7 demolition of Bowling Green in 2008).”

Anyhow, if anyone knows why the National Championship game keeps getting moved back to fit in these non-BCS bowls, I’d like to know.
