Initial Reactions From The First Three Games

College Basketball

–Memphis showed great resolve by taking over the game in the final three minutes against Cal-State Northridge. The Tigers didn’t waste what will turn out to be Roburt Sallie’s one shining moment either, and live to play another day. IF–and that’s a giant if–the winner of the Cal-Maryland game can be as aggressive at taking the ball to the basket as Northridge was and get Memphis’s post players into foul trouble, they have a better shot against the Tigers than I originally thought they would.

–Texas A&M was lights out in the first minutes of their game against BYU and that proved to be the difference. Bryan Davis and Chinemelu Elonu could effectively be the brawns to counter Hasheem Thabeet’s length on Saturday.

–Butler showed that they weren’t worthy of being ranked all season and LSU bounced back nicely from their loss to Mississippi State. LSU has a shot if Lawson doesn’t play.

–I know it sounds like I am thinking that all three of these teams have a legitimate shot Saturday. No, not really. I think the best chance for an upset is LSU against a UNC-less Lawson, but even that is far less than a coin flip.
