More Brandon Webb and Shoulders

insuranceThe D-backs apparently had a 3-year $45 million contract extension offer out to Brandon Webb. Last June. Which they pulled.

Why?

Despite passing a physical at the time and being remarkably durable his first six seasons in the majors, Webb’s contract was contingent on the team securing an insurance policy for the pitcher. But in using a higher standard when assessing potential risk, multiple agencies had concerns, which created a “red flag” for the Diamondbacks.

This is all a little more interesting at the moment because of Webb having to miss a start this weekend due to a “tight” shoulder.

Maybe Webb’s shoulder could have been made the subject of a CDS from AIG’s London office. Would it have been insurable then?
