Same as it Ever Was in Memphis

NBA

sad sad sad Except for the new uniforms. Those were nice. But beyond that? More of Lucy pulling the football away from Charlie Brown. 17,000 fans got suckered into showing up to see the allegedly newly competent team, and I am guessing that number will dwindle rapidly in the coming games.

96-74 Pistons win, and it wasn’t THAT close. Other than Marc Gasol with 21 points 15 boards and 3 blocks, the rest of the team pretty much mailed it in (although Zach Randolph actually looked like he cared too). Beyond them? Not so much. Ben Gordon and Rip Hamilton took turns giggling over the lack of perimiter defense and Memphis shot only 36% in return. The “we have to put forth more effort” quotes rankle. Fuck you, Mike Conley. On what basis does anyone who stepped foot on that court last night for Memphis get to mail one in? It sure isn’t past success that should have made that acceptable. Fuckers.

Oh, and while we’re here, Hasheem Thabeet may be the most awkward and unskilled big man I have ever seen in the NBA. That includes Chuck Nevitt, Shawn Bradley, and Manute Bol. He isn’t just a project, he’s simply a wild dream at this point. As in, maybe several years from now, he can be on an NBA floor and not embarrass himself. How awkward in his debut? He lost time in the second half to Hamid Haddadi. So, yeah.

As for Allen Iverson, if he’s smart, he will linger that partially torn hamstring into a several month injury, so he doesn’t have to be seen with this crap.

Grizzlies fever. Fucking stay away from it.
