Steve Nash put up 18 points and 20 assists last night. And his old friend Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavericks to an impressive road win over the Lakers.

Meanwhile, in this first game as a rookie, the Bucks Brandon Jennings dropped 17 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Remember, this is the guy that all the NCAA apologists were predicting would struggle so much because he went to play in Europe for a season instead of getting coached up as a student-athlete at one of our fine institutions of higher learning. How then to explain that he almost put up a triple-double in his first game without the value of pretending to go to class for a semester?

Minnesota has to be pleased with their first-round draft pick, at least with the one who decided not to shun the National Basketball Association for the land of tapas. Jonny Flynn has put up lines of 18 and 17 points in his first two games, including leading the Wolves to a 19-point comeback win against the Nets by scoring 13 in the 4th quarter.

The Celtics are 3-0. There are 79 games to go. But if they’re not one of the top two seeds in the East, it’ll be a shocker. The focus on this team is the Big 3, but the reality is that their depth is severely underrated. Adding Rasheed Wallace, Marquis Daniels, and Shelden Williams in the offseason gave this team size and a diversity of scoring options off the bench.
