The new Gilbert Arenas: quiet, depressed and despondent

Agent Zero is dead. The heat from the Hibachi has been turned off. Gilbert Arenas is still a really, really good basketball player. But he has no interest whatsoever in talking to the media. And since he has been forced to talk under threat of being fined, he will make us all suffer through an incredibly uncomfortable silence while he sulkily shrugs off the fans’ MVP chants and cheering, and tells reporters he’ll be excited when he gets to leave the locker room and get in his car. Video here.
I know he has taken some shots from the local media about not being serious and dedicated enough. I know that there are stupid fans who say stupid things. But this is kind of an overreaction. Don’t you think? What happened that was so awful that Arenas is acting like a kid giving his parents the silent treatment after getting in trouble?
AsĀ demonstrated by his past actions, this is not in his nature. Which makes it even more sad to watch, in a way. Either Flip Saunders or one of his player leaders needs to get Gilbert back on track. Because this won’t end well for a Wizards team with eyes on making a playoff run.
