NFL | Brady Quinn - Denver Broncos
by Memphis Bengal on Sunday, March 14th, 2010 at 04:10pm
Denver, according to Jay Glazer via twitter. For Peyton Hillis and two conditional picks. Which makes it official that the Jake Delhomme era really is upon Browns fans.
Weird.
NFL | 2010 NFL Free Agency - Daniel Snyder - Don Banks - Julius Peppers
by Memphis Bengal on Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010 at 08:08pm

If you guessed piling bags of money into his own private armored truck and logging the directions to Julius Peppers’ house, you’d probably not be too far off. According to Don Banks, that’s the likeliest landing place for the best of a reduced free agent class. Knock us over with not surprise.
For the rest of Don Banks’ guesses, head here to si.com for a good read. His hunches? Karlos Dansby to the Giants, Darren Sproles to the Washington Snyders, and the Ravens trying to fix their receiving corp with Kevin Walter and Terrell Owens among other guesses.
College Football, NFL | 2010 NFL Combine - Taylor Mays - Trindon Holliday
by Bronto on Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010 at 10:14pm
The NFL Network has footage that shows Taylor Mays beating Trindon Holliday at the Combine.
No big deal, right? Mays is a specimen, so that’s no suprise… is it?
Well, Mays ran an official 4.43. Holliday ran an official 4.34.
Yes, you read that correctly.
The problem likely traces in part to the fact that the timing commences not upon the firing of a gun but on the first motion of the player. So the easy fix is to make this faux track meet more like a real track meet, and to tie the timing to the gun or the whistle or whatever.
That makes sense, and shows that even automatic timing has its flaws.
NFL | New York Jets - things under buses - Thomas Jones - Vernon Gholsten
by Memphis Bengal on Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010 at 08:39pm

The slagging of Brett Favre by various unidentifed Jets after he took his leave from New York was kinda wonderful, and someone there is at it again in the wake of Thomas Jones’ release. In this case, the annonymous player is coming to Jones’ defense, as opposed to killing him, but the example used in coming to his defense? Delightful. Go Mr. Annonymous Jets player:
“I can tell you, it’s not going to be a popular move in the locker room,” said one player, speaking on the condition of anonymity. “We loved T.J. The man loved the game and put it all on the line only to get dumped after his best season. I think you should reward players for performance. You dump him but give Vernon (Gholston) another shot? Doesn’t make sense.”
Cloudy with a chance of drive-bys in New York.
NFL | Pacman Jones
by Memphis Bengal on Monday, March 1st, 2010 at 08:27pm

Looking for a gig in 2010, Pacman Jones jumps on the pro day workout thing, scheduling a workout for any NFL team that might wander by for March 19, 2010.
He’s scheduled it for New Orleans, so maybe he can set any scouts up with some of the local stripper talent to help draw some attention. Tips on rain optional.
NFL | 2010 NFL Free Agency - Darren Sproles - Lendale White - Thomas Jones
by Memphis Bengal on Monday, March 1st, 2010 at 06:57pm
And the chatter over Terrell Owens’ next media availabilities heats up. Locally, here in Baltimore, the buzz is that the Ravens are willing to let bygones be bygones and get back into the Owens business. The Bengals are reportedly kicking those same tires. Old, well worn tires. He’s 36 this year. Expectations should be adjusted accordingly, wherever he lands. To say the least.
Elsewhere:
—The Chargers are reportedly not going to tender Darren Sproles, making him happily the object of desire for a number of teams, including the Seahawks, 49ers, and Eagles.
—Thomas Jones likely out in New York, and will have no problems finding a new home in, say, Houston, or perhaps San Diego, busy shedding running backs like a snake sheds skin.
—The Titans are making noises about reducing the load on Chris Johnson next year, and might want to bring back Lendale White to caddy for Johnson, on those carries that will inevitably annoy Johnson owners.
—There are few decent wide receivers ready for market, one of the few is Houston’s Kevin Walter, and they may work to keep him in place, which would lead back to where we began, those looking to get in the Terrell Owens business. For better or worse.
NFL | NFL competition committee - NFL overtime rules
by Memphis Bengal on Sunday, February 28th, 2010 at 02:23pm

…the NFL competition committee is taking yet another look at the NFL’s overtime rules, at least, those rules as they pertain to the playoffs. The skinny:
Under the new format, both teams would get the ball at least once unless the first team to get the ball scores a touchdown, Greg Aiello said. If the first team to get the ball makes a field goal and the other team ties the game, action would continue until a team scores again.
Eh, makes sense, I suppose. At least, it doesn’t reflexively seem awful. Would it mean we never have to hear this topic again? Because if so, by all means, pass the change.
NFL | Kevin Kolb - Michael Vick - philadelphia eagles
by Memphis Bengal on Sunday, February 28th, 2010 at 01:19pm

Geoff Mosher writing an NFL notes column for delawareonline with this among other notes:
* Multiple league sources have told me that they anticipate the Eagles paying Vick’s 1.5 roster bonus and holding onto Vick for as long as possible to get the best available offer. Shelling out $1.5 million is hardly unreasonable if the team gets a third-or fourth-round pick in return.
* League sources familiar with the Eagles’ thinking believe that the team will prioritize business over football in its quarterback decision – meaning they’ll deal McNabb for the offer, even if they believe he’s still a championship-caliber quarterback. One source said the Eagles’ front office is divided about its two QBs.
As for the 1.5 million to stay in the Mike Vick business, hey, it’s not my money. Burn away. It’s the last part that has me Lol’ing. If there is any truth to the Eagles front office being divided between Kolb being the best long-term option for the team and instead thinking Vick is, well, then the vast majority of teams that need quarterbacks should swoop in and try to talk Kolb off the Eagles. And if there is a scenario where the Eagles hitch their wagon for 2010 to Vick over Kolb I would be highly entertained by that decision-making. And then some.
NFL | 2010 NFL Combine - 2010 NFL Draft
by Bronto on Sunday, February 28th, 2010 at 10:53am
In the car yesterday afternoon I was afraid that John Clayton was going orgasm out of my car speakers when he started talking about Bruce Campbell’s combine performance.
Campbell weighed in at 314 (“chiseled” according to Clayton) and ran what was originally a 4.78 40 yard dash, but was later revised to a 4.85. (I wish that I was in the car when the revised time was revealed. Clayton’s disappointment might have made my speakers implode all the way to Bristol)
Of course, lineman don’t ever have to run 40 yards, so the applicability of Campbell’s time is effectively none, but hey, it’s a nice number, right?
And also in the “of course” file for the NFL Draft, Campbell’s Combine showing has led to speculation that he’ll be taken by the Raiders. The Raiders do need line help, so while Campbell may be a reach in the top 10, the Raiders would at least be attempting to address a need.
College Football, NFL | 2010 NFL Draft - Sam Bradford
by Bronto on Friday, February 26th, 2010 at 12:36am
Sam Bradford?
Yep, that’s what Adam Schefter says.
My guess is that if Bradford really is taken first, the Bucs will take either Gerald McCoy or Ndamukong Suh third instead of taking Eric Berry like almost every mock draft has at this moment.
And with Bradford being taken first, the Redskins draft strategy–at this moment–changes dramatically, which may lead them to take an offensive tackle instead of Bradford. (Or if the Jason Campbell for Donte Whitner deal has any truth, maybe the Redskins draft Berry)
Ah hell, the only thing that’s certain is that the draft talk will heat up over the Combine this weekend.
