The lead is now down to two games.

And Minnesota’s starter? None other than Mister Delaware’s homey Carl Pavano, who was able to only allow two runs off of 11 hits in seven innings in large part because he didn’t walk anyone.

Jake Peavy!

I don’t know if I’d be starting him, but with the White Sox six out and Detroit collapsing, I guess Crazy Kenny Williams figured he needed to get his prized acquisition on the field.

The line? 5 IP, 3 H 3 ER 2 BB 5 K.

Two of the runs happened in the second, including when–according to the box score–Yuniesky Betancourt sacrificed to Peavy to score Miguel Olivo. I’d love to see that replay.

Mike Hampton has reached that point.

The Houston Astros say starting pitcher Mike Hampton will miss next season after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder.A statement issued by the Astros on Tuesday say surgeons at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York repaired a full left rotator cuff tear in Hampton’s pitching shoulder. Dr. David Altchek, the New York Mets‘ medical director, also repaired partial damage to the labrum in the shoulder.

Given the nature of the injury and Hampton’s age (37), he’d be absolutely insane to attempt a comeback. That said, if nothing else, he’s got to be patted on the back for his perseverance. Not many people would keep going through the countless rehabilitation sessions that Hampton has gone through.
