Notre Dame’s 2018 Coach Will Be…

…whoever is hired to replace Butch Jones at Central Michigan. A weird circle of coaching life is underway between Central Michigan, Cincinnati, and Notre Dame. The Bearcats took Brian Kelly from Central several years ago. Notre Dame took Brian Kelly from Cincinnati last week. The Bearcats replace Kelly with the guy who replaced Kelly at CMU. Which should mean when Kelly fails at Notre Dame, that Jones will be there to replace him around 2013 and the new UC coach will come from Central. Wash, rinse, repeat.

By the way, Paul Daugherty in the Cincinnati Enquirer writes the usual paint-by-numbers article decrying the lack of loyalty in college coaches as he looks back at Brian Kelly lighting out from UC for greener pastures. Unironically, apparently, since UC has just ripped its second coach from CMU in the last four years. Perhaps in Daugherty’s world it is only unfortunate when it happens to UC?

How about it just is what it is. College coaches being no different than anyone else in looking to improve their lot in life.
