Auto Racing | 2009 Sprint Cup - Jeremy Mayfield

An appeals court has overturned Jeremy Mayfield’s injunction that would have potentially allowed him to race, if, you know, he could actually have found someone willing to give him a ride.
Now, Mayfield is back at square one, and is hoping that his “B” sample from the independent labaroatory he reportedly tested at also comes back negative.
If push comes to shove, NASCAR or Mayfield could request to have Mayfield’s hair tested, as it would provide a reliable sample, but Mayfield’s lawyer said that his hair wasn’t long enough.
I’ll defer to the good doctor on that one, but how much hair do you actually need?

Apparently, if you’re Jeremy Mayfield, it’s pretty hard.
If this was not NASCAR, this would be the top story on SportsCenter every night.* Just when you think that this story is over, something ridiculous happens like on Monday.
Now that he’s cleared to race by a judge, NASCAR wanted to test Mayfield. He was given two hours to get to the test site. Mayfield couldn’t get there. So he went to another, non-approved lab after he ouldn’t get to a second, closer lab because of bad directions. And then, when NASCAR showed up to his house six hours after the first phone call, Mayfield couldn’t go for another hour.
Sheesh.
(For the record, I’m not advocating that it should be the top story on SportsCenter. I also don’t advocate for a lot of stories to be the top story either, though.)
