NFL | Behemoth scoreboards - Ego - Jerry Jones - Punting
by Memphis Bengal on Saturday, August 22nd, 2009 at 09:00am
One helluva stadium. But not enough money to ensure that the scoreboard is out of the field of play.
Oops.
Jerry Jones has maintained that the behemoth scoreboard will not be in play. It took one punt last night to prove him wrong. Titans rookie punter AJ Trapasso hit it, and Jones, being Jones, accused Trapasso of TRYING to hit it. Trapasso, well, he disagrees:
“It’s nothing that is going to happen every time, but it’s there and it’s got to be addressed,” Trapasso said. “I don’t know how much further up it can go, but it’s in the way.“
Jones needs to raise his scoreboard.
NFL | Jerry Jones - Schizophrenia - Terrell Owens
by Memphis Bengal on Sunday, March 29th, 2009 at 09:47am
The wounded-little-boy one. Quoth one aspect of Terrell Owens:
“You hear all the speculation, and you talk to the owner of the team, and he reassures you, you’re not going anywhere and then, out of left-field … you get blindsided,” Owens, 35, said in an interview with Rogers Sportsnet, to be broadcast tomorrow evening.
“I know whole-heartedly he [Jerry Jones] wanted me there,” Owens said. “There were some people I know who got in his ear that pressured him to make that decision. For that, it’s sad. You let two or three people conspire to get me out of the situation.“
Yes. That sounds EXACTLY like Jerry Jones, always being swayed by others. Or not. At any rate, quoth Jerry Jones in return:
“I don’t have anything to say, but we have a great relationship,” Jones said. “I’m sorry we didn’t get this year in on the contract, but I don’t have any pointed comment to what he said that there were people within the organization that didn’t want him here. I read the substance of [the comments]. Bottom line is I don’t really have any comments.“
Damn. That’s not what would Shaq do. Jones and Owens, in happier times:

NFL | Jerry Jones - Sleuthing - Terrell Owens

At least, deciphering what the hell Jones is up to with the whole gag order on his entire coaching staff thing. Tim Cowlishaw in the Dallas Morning News thinks he has a handle on it. It means that Terrell Owens will remain with the Cowboys. Unless he doesn’t.
That sure clears it up.
NFL | Bad coach - Botox - Jerry Jones
by Memphis Bengal on Saturday, February 21st, 2009 at 07:48am

You know, I might not want Wade Phillips to talk either. Then again, if I felt that way as an owner, I perhaps would not have him as my coach. There is no easy explanation for Jerry Jones’ latest eccentricity, the gag order on his entire coaching staff (including Phillips) at the Combine. From the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram:
“Muzzling coaches around pens and pads and microphones is apparently one of the many changes the Cowboys are trying to include this off-season to improve their team going forward. Muzzling coaches is a move a lot of NFL franchises have used in recent years. Suppressing the head coach is a bit of a surprise, although it might be more of a favor to Phillips, who has become a source of constant scorn, criticism and mockery in recent months. But it can also give the appearance of undercutting the head coach.”
Indeed. And, the only instances of “muzzling coaches” that come to mind readily are head coaches not letting their assistants talk to the media (Belichik, Parcells). So, yeah. And if Phillips has become a “source of constant scorn, criticism and mockery” I don’t see how treating him like a three-year-old will help. Plus, we like to mock…
